2009 NOFANY Potato Trial

We were pleased to  participate once again in the NOFA-NY Potato Trials.  On June 2, 2009 we planted three types of potatoes.  Chieftains,  Eva, and Purple Fingers.

The Chieftains were the control potato.  They are a lovely pinkish/red potato with white flesh.  We trialed Eva last year and was pleased to see that our yield improved this year.   The Purple fingers are small fingerling purple skinned and fleshed potatoes.

The plants seemed to grow quickly and filled in nicely.  We did not observe too many pests on the foliage.
October 26 was harvest day.  We harvested 46.2 lbs of Chieftains,  36.2 lbs of Eva potatoes and the Purple Fingers only yielded 1/2 lb.  We observed a lot of vole damage on the Chieftains and we wondered if the Purple Fingers were possibly eaten by the vole.
