Perry Hill Farm is looking for volunteers. These are unpaid positions
which provide you with food and a place to camp during the warmer
months. The right person/people will help in all aspects of growing
plants....perennials, bi-annuals, and annuals. Emphasis will be on
vegetable plants and herb/medicinal plants. At the peaceful Perry Hill
Farm, you will learn about wild-crafting medicinal plants, growing,
harvesting, processing herbs and medicinal plants. You will also learn
about wild edibles. You will be getting dirty and digging in the dirt,
weeding, planting, watering, transplanting, preparing herbal products
and produce for the farmers market etc. Helping at the two local
farmers markets. You will learn about sustainable living and help set up
solar pumping for irrigation and install fencing. There is the
possibility that if products/produce generate enough income this could
become a paid position. This position will help the candidate learn
about running their own farming operation focused on plants---
herbs/medicinal as well as vegetables.
There are trails for hiking, ponds for swimming and canoeing, and lots
of animals who love attention. This position offers an incredible amount
of hands-on learning. We have wifi in the barn and house. We are 2
miles from the Metro North Harlem Line. Perry Hill Farm is a vegetarian
farm and smoking is not permitted on the farm. Please contact Vicki
Harkness to learn more about this position.

This is a review left by one of our past HelpX volunteers:
I had a fantastic time at Perry Hill farm. Not only great hosts, Jon and
Vicki are also great teachers. Always keen to tell me about the local
area and show me around, they also helped me to understand organic
processes, renewable energy and eco-friendly living.
Work was fun
and tasks were structured so that I could be part of a project from
start to finish. Vicki made sure that I always understood the concepts
behind the work that I was doing (Permaculture, Companion Planting
etc.). She even shared her literature and internet resources on the
topics, meaning I took away a lot of useful knowledge from my time
there.
I also had the opportunity to learn from Joshua, the
youngest scientist/astronaut I've ever met (good luck with the titanium
meteorite)
An awesome experience - I only wish I had longer. If
you like animals, children, gardening or great cooking, you'll love
Perry Hill farm. I am very grateful for my time there, Thanks Vicki, Jon
and Joshua! --Daniel
